Rating 5.0

For a Helsinki → Ruka trip in January, go straight for top-tier Nordic studless winters Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 or Michelin X-Ice Snow. Both are built exactly for the kind of icy, packed-snow highways you’ll hit up north, and they handle EV weight really well. The R5 has slightly better ice grip, the X-Ice is a bit quieter and longer lasting.

Pros: handle EV weight well

I have tried falken wildpeak and Cooper discoverer all terrain tires which are both winter rated and neither were remotely as good as mt Hakepalita 10 studded tires.

Pros: better than other tires
Cons: not remotely as good

Nokia Tires

I have the Nokian Encompass AW02 a very similar style tire but cheaper. Been happy with them so far. Was recommended at discount tire for my Subaru Forester. If you want another option...

Pros: happy with them
Cons: cheaper option

We got the hakka studded ones on this year and WOW I will never go bad. We were using Firestone winter tires that came with our car before that and slid all over the place.

Pros: traction when going
Cons: Firestone slid all over

SUMITOMO Tires

Best snow and ice tire I’ve used have been Sumitomo Ice Edge. They are studdable and they are way cheaper than the major brands. I’ve got them on my 01 Jetta and 04 L300. I’ve had Blizzaks but they are pricey and the Firestone Wnterforces were meh.

Pros: way cheaper, studdable

Nokia Tires

Purchased nokian Hakkapellitta R5's for my 98 ford taurus wagon. I will never recommend another tire, would only reccomend studded hakka's. I drive the 881 up north to conklin and back south to cold lake every 2 weeks (2 on 2 off shift) these wheels have 100% given me a false sense of security on the road because I am yet to lose any form of traction even starting from a stop sign on an incline.

Pros: false sense of security
Cons: only recommend studded
Vehicle: Ford Taurus

Nokia Tires

I’ve been driving on both all weather and winter tires in Calgary for 35 years. I cant tell the difference. I’ve done dozens of trips through the mountain passes on both as well…also cant tell the difference. All weathers usually are Nokian WRG (currently I have a set of Michelin Cross-Climates on one vehicle) and winters are Pirelli or Nokian

Pros: can't tell difference
