My OE tyres lasted around 60,000km and have now fitted a new set of Pirelli P7s all round.
Just ordered some stock size tires from Tirerack - $51/tire for Dunlop SP Sport A2 - good reviews on there and they are cheap.
I have been running 195-50-15 P700Z's on my 81 MKI Scirocco. They ride pretty well on the freeway for low profile tires. Tire noise is not bad. Cornering power is good in the dry. I wore out the fronts first and bought two more. The tire is a bargain and good all around performance for the price.
I have P7000 Summer's on my 88 Toyota MR2 and while I am very impressed with them, they do wear very quickly.
I don't have experience with the P7000 but I've had two sets of the P700Zs and loved them. They are an older tire that are now out of production but you can get them for a great price. They are nice and sticky and last as well. A good combo if you ask me.
Pirelli P7000, love them but weaer out fast. Super in the rain. I even Auto-X'ed with them a coupla times and was competitive.
Dunlop SP 8000s 195/55-zr14. I love them. Do not use in the snow, though.
I'll be putting on my Dunlop Winter Sport M2's in the next few weeks for the 3rd snow season and would echo INDIGO's points. I've been slightly disappointed on the snow performance as I've found quite a bit of understeer with these tires in snow.
I heard they sucked from the tire guy, so he sold me sp8k's...which I LOVE.
Now for tire noise, my Pirelli P7000 Supersports were quiet as could be. I read some posts about noise on them before buying them and thought "noise, what noise???" Well, after about 10k miles on them, they sound like monster truck tires roaring down the road.
