Tires (Winter) Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV (Mandatory for Quebec Dec 1 - Mar 15)
I run Hakkapeliittas on my SQ5 for the New England weather and theyre great on mountain access roads in the thick stuff
I’ve run blizzaks- x-ice- nokians. Preference for the nokians but the x-ice is a close second.
Get some severe snow rated all weather tires. Nokian WRG5s. I have been running their light trail tires on my Q5 and I have been extremely impressed. They handle white out blizzards on Utah mountain passes like a champ.
Get some studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires on all four wheels.
Kleber Quadraxer 3 and BFGoodrich Advantage All Season are also made by the Michelin group, as second tier brands, and they have a similar performance profile to the Cross Climate 2 as they have very strong winter performance.
I just got a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta and they are the single best tires I've ever had. They are biased towards water. I've been going through all of the heavy rain puddles thinking I would hydroplane and just nothing happens. I cruise through like I have suction cups as tires.
Nokian makes some dirt nasty snow tires. Out of all I’ve ever used- they’re the best.
Apparently they perform well which must be true since their winter tires are very popular where I live too. It is just the quality of the material itself that's awful.
I'll never buy Nokian again. Lasted me less than two winters (stored properly during the summers) before kal tire refused to put them on due to cracking in the sidewalls. Absolute garbage.
