Tires NITTO or Cooper
So I just got these Cooper Strongholds put on my truck. Went from a P tire so I was glad to get a nice rugged tire on. They are practical for what I need and looking forward to seeing how they perform in the snow. So far in the bit of mud I’ve been in they have great traction. They ride nice and are not super loud. I’d recommend these tires.
I would consider Cooper a mid range tire. They’re not cheap but they’re not premium. I have a 2007 Tacoma and it’s got 300,000 miles on it so I’ve ran many sets of tires. Just recently put the Cooper Discover A3 on my truck and they are great in the snow.
I’ve had both and the Cooper is superior in every condition. I ran them on my GMC Sierra but had BFG’s on several 4WD’s over the years. Where I lived we got lots of rain, some snow and occasional ice storms. I always had excellent traction. I drove them 60k miles and they still had tread left.
I also have a set of coopers on my tj. I’ve been very impressed with them so far and love how they chew through the really deep stuff, mud or snow. Main thing is that they’re heavy which has put some wear on my steering rack and tire carrier, they can be pretty loud on the freeway with the top off but I love that.
Best tires I’ve ever owned. They’re expensive as shit here in New Zealand, if you can even find them, but they’re worth every penny.
Now thats out of the way, I know my truck is clean in pictures but these tires absolutely RIP in the mud/dirt/snow, no complaints off road. For a radial tire id say 10/10 off road.
The first 10-15k miles on these tires was very smooth and quiet surprisingly.
Put them on my 22 TRD OR. Quiet, smooth ride, handle anything reasonable. As long as you’re not trying to do any massive off roading and worst terrain is going to deer camp on a rainy day they’re perfect.
I had Ridge Grapplers on a 2021, stock size on 20 inch wheels. They were quiet and good MPG. The Ridge Grapplers were sketchy on wet roads while the Defenders are lighter and make the truck feel 1k lighter.
Cooper tires are a joke. I just got a set and one popped on a gravel road and the other just started losing air for no reason.
These photos show what happened to two of my 265/75R16 E rated Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires after 4 years and 25k miles. One blew up and one developed a bulge.
