I went from those same tires to Michelin PS4s and I'm very happy with them. I have no issues in the rain.
I gotta say the factory Michelin PS AS 4 on non z51 c8s are actually incredible. I can't believe how well they hook up for an all season.
I would say get studless snow tires (not all-seasons): Michelin X-Ice Snow, Bridgestone Blizzak WS90, or Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5.
I was faced with the same issue, so I measured the tread depth difference. In about 16 K miles, my Michelin Defenders were down by about 0.178 mm or 0.007\" or 0.224/32.
Michelin X-Ice tires on sale at Canadian Tire have one the best value for a quality tire.
Crossclimate2 tires are really really good.
They're wild since they not only have superb snow traction, the dry traction actually is close to summer touring tire levels of grip.
The trade-off is rain. Still above average.
The most wild thing is I installed mine at 27,000 miles 3 years ago. I'm at 77,000 miles (50k on the tires) and Costco told me they measured at 5/32.
That means I'll get 70k miles out of these tires. Way past the 50k warranty.
I have a Model 3 Performance and I drive it like I stole it, these tires hold up to abuse.
I picked up some 18” Aeros and threw some 235/55/18 104V Michelin CrossClimate2 tires on them. It’s preeeeeetty good. Haha came from the stock 19” Aeros (I think they’re tempest?) on the stock Continental tires.
-Efficiency is nearly identical, got 265wh/mi cruising the highway at roughly 75mph.
-Ride is actually STIFFER. Totally shocked me haha
-Sound is identically quiet/loud, except at low speeds around 10mph where you can hear the tread pattern howl
-Picked up all the benefits that come with the CC2
I've been very happy with my Michelin CC2s. Pretty quiet in the summer and good so far with last week's snow.
My Michelin crossclimate 2 were great first winter, good second winter and terrible third winter.
I don't enjoy the lack of lateral traction when wet with these
