I'm running Nokian WRA3 on my Fiesta ST during cold periods. They've got me through a few years of deepest, snowy Bavarian winters.
Been absolutely great, no complaints about them.
I have the hakkapeliitta tires for winter on my CTS-v's, best damn winter tires you can get.
Something I can personally recommend is the Hankook Ventus v12 Evo2. Great tire and around the same price as the firehawks. Going to perform a little better than the firehawk but not supposed to last as long. TireRack has the Hankooks listed as a "Max" summer tire with a life at ~20k miles(Firehawks tire life supposed to be around 30k). I've put just under 15k miles on them with 2 auto cross days and wouldn't be surprised if they lasted longer than 20k. Got them for $460 mounted and balanced, out the door.
I went with Nokian Entyre 2.0. They handle really great, balanced out with no vibrations, and are quite quiet. If you get stuck driving in the rain these tires handle great in wet conditions as well. I've had them on for 40'000 and I'm still at about 70%. Good tire for lots of miles.
Ventus V12 EVO2 is the sleeper tire in this category. A few buddies run them, they are a lot like the PSS, in that they are a summer performance tire with consideration to tire life. But at an even lower cost.
I have RS3's on my S2000 and have for a while now. Fantastic dry grip when they're warmed up but then wet grip is abysmal...I actively avoid driving that car in the rain partially because of that.
I am very impressed with the traction on Ice and Snow its amazing.
I just want to add my 0.02$ on this, I recently bought my first Nokian tires every to put on our new Explorer and I can honestly say in the 3000km's we've driven in the last month that they are hands down the best winter tires I've ever experienced. Time will tell how much performance will be lost as they wear down and how long they will last but to date, color me very impressed. Mine are studded and the ice performance is outstanding fwiw.
Personally, I think a Hakka 1 or Hakka 2 is too agressive a tire for an AWD NJ daily driver unless your commute is only a couple of miles. They'll corner like you have four gum-erasers mounted and at least double your road noise.
Riding on Pirellis Cinturatos P7 now. IMO best tire for the Passat. The hankooks had no grip even in very light snow. Rain driving was scary, loud on highway. I couldn't risk driving my family with them.
