Tires Hankook or Firestone

Wears like iron, just like the R-S3, but doesn't need as much heat to work. I can leave the sprayer at home and just ignore them.

It'll be a huge leap over those junk Hankooks.

Get Hankooks or Firestones if you want to save a couple of bucks, while still having a great tire.

The Firehawk Indy 500 tires aren't perfect but they hold up well on a track known for eating tires. Additionally they are predictable in wet/dry conditions which is perhaps more important for learning.

After lots of research I went for Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 tyres and am very, very happy with them.

If you don't need run flats, get Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s. Rebadged Bridgestone tires that are stickier than most Michelin tires, and cheaper too

I also really like Winterforce tires. again far less expensive but great tread and can be studded if you want.

Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's seem to be the best budget performance tires.

My 2017 Beetle S came with the tires specified immediately below...Hankook Kinergy GT...Originally, tire wear appeared to be proceeding well...After the 16,000 mile service...I noticed the centers of two tires...to have lost the siping \u2013 classic over-inflation indicator...Recently at 19,000 miles I noted the front tires...had lost the center siping \u2013 again signifying over-inflation...I am not particularly surprised at the center wear as I think a load index of 95 is fairly high for this vehicle...I cannot imagine 60,000 miles for these tires.

I have the Ventus V12s on my SLK in the Bay Area too. Very similar tire. They absolutely suck at displacing water. I can legit lose the back end in heavy rain at medium speeds. The grip and launch in the summer is great, but they are simply not designed for water displacement.
