Tires Firestone or DUNLOP
I’m glad the series asked Firestone for a bigger differential in pace between the reds and blacks. A lot of the time last year it seemed largely negligible.
I managed to get her setup with some Firestone all seasons, with hazard warranty for 600 out the door at a Firestone auto center.
Firestone is a budget “decent” tire. Crossclimate 2 is made to be VERY good in snow and rain (it also lasts the 60,000 miles it claims).
The 999 rear does skid out much easier then the Dunlop American elite, however I like to skid so that is a pro for me. I ran thru 2 Dunlop elites quite quickly. For the record I did like the Dunlop AE, just didn’t like replacing it every season
With its original Dunlop Enasaves our Gen. 4 Prius consistently indicated \~ 62-63mpg in mixed driving. At \~ 42,000mi. the Dunlops were replaced with Michelin Defenders, the mileage immediately dropped over 18% which persisted for nearly 1000mi.
I would recommend just outright avoiding Firestone. Aside from Firestone tires being garbage (except the Transforce line)
I have a vendetta against Firestone since they exploded on my Explorer and nearly wrecked me, only had like 10k miles.
It's wild to me that Firestone has been so invisible and irrelevant in the consumer market ever since the Ford Explorer fiasco, yet still so active in Indycar.
