DUNLOP Tires

I just wanted to share my opinion of the Dunlop Mutants after about 3000km of fixed use (highway touring, mountain twists, commuting, and fire/gravel/cottage roads in wet/dry/cold conditions. The tires are brilliant and my new favourite road tire.

Pros: brilliant, new favourite road tire
Cons: not cheap, sides wash out
Mileage: 3000 km

But I’m a major fan of American elite 4’s. They came on the new bike and I’ve put 10k on them in the last 3 months and they haven’t aged a bit.

Pros: haven’t aged a bit
Mileage: 10000 km

Last two tires I ran were GPR300s. The traction was good in the corners, only negative for me was the lifetime, only 3,000mi each before having to replace.

Pros: good traction in corners
Cons: short lifetime
Vehicle: Suzuki
Mileage: 4828 km

So I came to event day on my normal Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyres. In practice, I found that on the R-spec I could do an 89 second lap, but consistently run at 92 seconds (I could do consecutive 90 second laps, but brakes would become the weak link after about 4 consecutive laps). On the street tyres I could do a 93 second lap, but due to brakes again, nominated at 95 second lap.

Pros: high quality sport tyres
Cons: brakes weak link

OEM Porsche Tires

I recently bought a ‘16 with 6,500 miles. Most everything checked out but the tires were original and dry rotted to hell.

Cons: tires were dry rotted
Vehicle: Porsche
Mileage: 6500 km

Mine held up really well and was decent on the road and hard dirt and gravel.

Loose stuff though? Not a fan.

Pros: decent on road, hard dirt
Cons: loose stuff

Rating 2.0

Don't go Chinese, had them on low profile 19 inches, were shot and damaged in less than 15k kms. I usually stick to the big names, Dunlop best traction, bridgestone best comfort and life, Yokohama a balance of both. Last for a decent time and the overall cost was lower compared to the kms done not to undermine the sense of safety

Pros: Dunlop best traction
Cons: shot and damaged
Mileage: 15000 km
