I have these in 225-55-17, great 3 season 80K mile tire for us, very quiet and minimal MPG hit even going with the taller sidewall, double bonus, they are made in russia just like our Haka 8s.

Pros: very quiet, minimal MPG hit

185 wide Michelin Energy savers to 205 Continental premiumcontact 6.

Holy shit the grip is amazing. In all conditions. Rain, cold, whatever. 20mins of track time even goes well

Pros: amazing grip, all conditions
Cons: more sliding about

Continental Extreme Contact DWS06’s are excellent. Same size as the summer tires on the Golf R. Excellent winter traction, I’ve had these on all my GTI’s, and I just put them on my new R.

Pros: Excellent winter traction

I installed 235f and 255r for a wider look. Continental extreme contact dsw. SL sidewall load range so not as solid as XL. I had to put more air in \~38lbs because they were mushy in curves but now seem fine. I trust them more in the rain than I would high performance tires.

Pros: trust them in rain
Cons: mushy in curves

Nokia Tires

I’ve decided skip Winter tires for my Golf Sportwagen this year and just go with Nokian WR G4 All weather tires to replace the stock all seasons. My reasoning is I got another car ( VW Routan) with dedicated Winter tires and on the bad days I have the choice to either drive the other car with Winter tires or even better work from home whenever school is cancelled due to snow. Given my circumstances, the All weather Nokians for the GSW make a lot of sense.

Pros: makes a lot of sense

Check out continental extremecontact sport. It was continentals competitor to the pilot super sport. Cheaper than ps4 and quite good!

Pros: quite good, cheaper

I went with Conti purecontact LS in 225/50. Fits the rim great. Conti specifies 6-8" width and this rim is 7". I know wider isn't considered better for winter but it's a great tire and will do much better than what comes oem in the cold and snow. Still a narrower contact patch than what comes on the SEL. Same revolutions per mile as the stock 205/55. These are all season as opposed to all whether but get better snow and ice reviews than many all weathers.

Pros: great tire, fits rim great

We have had winter specific tires on vehicles from 4x4 big pickups to the VW rabbits. Have use Michelin X-ice, Blizzaks, Winterforce studded and Nokian Hakka's, both studded and unstudded. Would not go through a winter without the Nokians. Last winter the big 4x4 truck ran Nokian Rotiiva's and they worked but not as well as winter specific tires. Wife's Ford Escape - Nokian Hakka's non-studded. A great ride. Good traction and road feel, snow and ice as well as base clear pavement.

Pros: good traction and road feel
Vehicle: Ford Escape

I've had Continental DWS06 235/40/18 225/45/18 tires on my 2011 Speed and I loved them. The 235/40 had more grip but the 225/45 ride better. Simply put, the DWS06 tires are the best tires I've ever owned.

Pros: more grip, better ride
