Tires BRIDGESTONE or Maxxis

Maxxis Tires

Assegai is very good but be aware it can be very cloggy with mud and needs speed to clear. From what you say of your riding it might not be a problem for you but wet clay especially on slower tech trails can pretty much just turn them into a slick.

Pros: pays back with grip
Cons: can be very cloggy

I've ran the DHF for years and currently run it, but I've ridden a few bikes with the Assegai and I think it is in every way a better, more predictable tyre than a DHF.

Pros: better, more predictable tyre

I run a DHR II and an Assegai for downhill. I love the hookup of the Assegai for varied conditions. The DHF and Assegai are both great tires but I find the Assegai more aggressive with better traction overall.

Pros: better traction overall

Maxxis Tires

I’ve ridden both for many years. The DHF was designed and made when tires were 2.3 wide. As the front tire has generally moved to a 2.5 width the space between the centre and side knobs opened up quite a bit and there is now a vague area of less traction at certain lean angles before you get onto the side knobs.

Pros: traction at all angles
Cons: DHF is lighter

Maxxis Tires

Assegai is my favorite front tire but it is a little slow rolling. If you don't mind that then there aren't many better front tires.

Pros: many better front tires
Cons: little slow rolling

I have ridden the DHF exclusively since getting my bike. I fell in love with the grip when cornering, literally feels like the bike is on rails. I have never lost the front tire in any conditions.

Pros: grip when cornering

I never get punctures with EXO. Problem I have is the sidewall flops when I lean into fast corners with tire pressures under 25psi and that makes the cornering feel unpredictable.

Pros: no punctures
Cons: unpredictable cornering

BRIDGESTONE Tires

Probably would not recommend these tires after having them for a couple years on the S60 and about 15 months on our XC70... The XC70 just went in to the tire shop because we had some sidewall damage (accidental curb strike) with only about 11K miles on the tires. They measured tread depth and it seems they were about 70% gone.

Pros: good winter traction
Cons: fast tire wear
Vehicle: Volvo S60
Mileage: 11000 km

BRIDGESTONE Tires

My last set of Bridgestone Potenza tires lasted maybe 15k miles, but we’re totally bald on the inside by the 10k mark or less. Very dodgy in the rain to drive.

Cons: bald on inside, dodgy in rain, short lifespan
Mileage: 15000 km
