Timing belt AISIN or Gates
Aisin is the one you want. Full stop.
I just did a timing belt / water pump kit on my bugeye. All the components you get with it are exactly what you’d get if you went to the dealership (even down to the little component boxes albeit with a different logo stamped on it), except for maybe the pump itself. Aisin was one of the OE water pump manufacturers, and they have a long history in Japanese car parts and motor sports. The instructions that come with the kit make it super easy, too.
You could use a Gates timing belt, they're great quality.
I'd definitely want to at least peak at the timing belt for its condition / date stamp. Aisin kit with water pump and OEM Subaru thermostat is what you want.
Fitted new gates belt
Gates are reckoned to be the best.
Inside of the engine was super clean Gates racing belt, I figure the extra couple bucks is worth it.
Thanks for all of the replies everybody big help love the community I was able to source the parts I needed today timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and pink antifreeze there was green in my car so I flushed it out before I started to do the timing job, which btw took me 7 hours mannnn I’ve never done one of these before and looking at the DIY and YouTube helped a lot but it’s all done and can make it to work tomorrow. If I was off would have started this tomorrow morning I had no choice but to start today at 2:30. Took her for a drive sound was gone car feels great. Again thank you all!
Aisin is definitely a go to.
I'm going to swap the Conti belt I installed for a Gates (OEM on this car). I'll let you know how it goes.
I've had some problems with Gates for timing belts. I've had 2 instances when the timing belt was making noise after installing it, hard noise to describe, basically the belt being very hard. Threw on an OEM belt and it was fine.
