The Mopar stats (mfg by Motorad) can be had from Rockauto, and are generally well regarded, if more expensive than generic parts store units.
I got a Mopar thermostat from the dealer a few months ago. Works much better than the previous two aftermarket units
In case anyone else comes across this post, it was the aftermarket thermostat. I managed to get a hold of a mopar one yesterday and the gasket around it was just slightly larger than the aftermarket one and needed a little bit of resistance to seat it. Now my truck is getting up to temperature quickly and working great.
I replaced the thermostat in my wifes 2014 journey with the V6. It was an easy and straight forward job.
The gasket looks fine. Normal procedure would be to buy a new one from BMW. always go OEM with the thermostat, there's a lot of shit knockoffs.
Notice the radiator is leaking. Replace that. Car still not happy, cooling fans on full blast. Codes point to a thermostat, but the radiator hoses get warm. In my pea brain thermostats don't normally just sometimes go bad, they're typically either all broke or not broke. Ordered a thermostat from Trumplandia anyways.
I just bought one off RockAuto. I have to overhaul my entire coolant system and through some searching on this subreddit I saw a lot of people saying the Motorad brand kept failing after a few months. I didn\u2019t want to risk it so I opted for the Mopar thermostat from RockAuto for $35.
Stick with Mopar thermostat. I went off brand and it didn\u2019t work correctly.
The thermostat failed twice. Once at like 80k miles and again at 115k miles. The second time it failed I replaced it with an aftermarket one that had a metal stem instead of plastic. It made it until we traded it in.
I bought from FCP euro one of the OE water thermostat and water pump. The thermostat sticks open since new so I get check engine light on my M54 engine.
