Bilstein Strut assembly

Buy once, cry once. Get the good stuff (I agree Bilstein, Koni orange, Tein). You'll need new bushings and strut bearings to replace what comes out.

Monroe Strut assembly

I had my mechanic install Monroe struts on my 2013 CR-V before I sold it and purchased my 2021 Avalon. Monroe struts noticeably improved the ride of my CR-V and I highly recommend them.

Bilstein Strut assembly

Installed Bilstein B4 Struts and Shocks all around @ 80-85k miles. The car feels very planted. I drive 90-100MPH (140-160kph) daily for up to an hour, and I can tell you that it does not feel like it crashes into potholes or bumps like people say. The rebound on the struts are a tad far but that’s at high speeds and takes a quite a launch for it to rebound as far as I’m saying.

Added a modest 40mm lift, upgraded to a better quality Bilstein struts when it was time. Added Falken Wildpeak AT tires.

So I have the Bilsteins with Eibach springs. City driving sucks a big one. Just too stiff to give in the pot hole heaven, train track crossing, city. On a nice surface they are excellent performers. Really shined on the tail of the dragon.

Pros: excellent on nice surfaces, great performance
Cons: too stiff for city, bad on potholes

Monroe Strut assembly

I put Monroe quick struts on my Mazda 3 about a year ago.   The rubber boots have disintegrated and they're rusting already.

For all who are considering or may be considering Bilstein B14s or B16s, I would suggest you look elsewhere. The struts below were on my Alltrack for 65K miles and about 4 years. The suspension was not modified beyond these coilovers and a rear sway bar. I've owned cars with modified suspensions (both strut and double wishbone front ends) for more than a quarter century and I've never seen chrome worn off of a shock shaft before. Not surprisingly once the chrome started to chip it tore up the piston rod guide and seal so the struts started acting very poorly in rebound and clunking at low speeds from the movement of the shaft relative to the strut body.

Pros: BMP tuning was helpful
Cons: inferior quality, chrome worn off
