Strut assembly KYB or GABRIEL

KYB Strut assembly

I used KYB. They are the OEM supplier now since Tokico is not around. I bought mine through Rockauto. They frequently have rebates. I didn't buy the complete strut assemblies. I just bought the struts and purchased OEM springs seats, bearings, bellows etc.

Pros: OEM supplier
Vehicle: Lexus
Mileage: 150000 km

Personally I’ve had good luck with Gabriel ReadyMount (Nissan Maxima). I got about 90k miles out of one set and just replaced with the same brand.

GABRIEL Strut assembly

For this project, I went for comfort, and these definitely delivered. It's cushy over bumps and dips in the road, and delivers a smoother ride.

Pros: cushy over bumps, smoother ride
Cons: lag in steering response

KYB Strut assembly

The thing I found out a while ago was that Mazda back in the day used KYB built struts for the 626. OEM is guaranteed to be restore ride quality for sure. KYB struts usually are always top notch and sometimes better than OEM (but definitely keep the coil springs).

Pros: top notch, better than OEM
Vehicle: Mazda 626

Gabriel are quality parts, I put their struts on my LS400. It isn't going to make your ride worse, it'll make your ride more controlled, with less roll, squat or dive, as it isn't worn out.

Pros: more controlled ride
Cons: null
Vehicle: Lexus

GABRIEL Strut assembly

Autozone for example will sell you Gabriel brand quick struts which are easy to install - but they are not exact replacements, usually they are too floaty.

Pros: easy to install
Cons: too floaty
Vehicle: Toyota

KYB Strut assembly

I would use only KYB, Gabriel, and Sachs struts. I've tried the cheap no name Chinese ones and all you'll get are alignment issues and worn out parts in a year or less.

Pros: alignment maintained
Cons: worn out parts

I had these KYBs on the front of my W124 for a while, until I went over a speed bump and one of the struts blew out.

Pros: normal non-descript damper
Cons: struts blew out
