Got my car fixed today! Steering feels very tight now. Maybe a little too tight. I tested it out there at the dealership parking lot and though it doesn’t make that creaking noise anymore, if I turn it to max either way, it sounds like a low scraping noise. Maybe just needs a bit of movement to loosen up? Responds well though. Otherwise, driving feels good. Feels like I have it on Sport mode with how stiff the steering wheel feels. They did a wheel alignment with it and the job took roughly 4-5hrs. I tried LKAS on the highway and it felt good. Wasn’t ping ponging all dramatically like it was. Letting go of the steering wheel for a couple seconds on a straight felt good. No subtle shift to the left like it did. Otherwise, just moving the steering wheel doesn’t make any creaks so that’s a plus. Glad it got done.

Pros: tight steering, no creaking noise, good driving feel, improved LKAS
Cons: steering too tight, scraping noise at max turn
Vehicle: Honda Accord

When I brought my Honda Civic for the rack replacement on warranty I told them there is a problem with the rack there was no recall at the time I found out it was a silent recall if you didn’t tell them they would not told me I ended up getting it replaced no charge

Pros: replaced no charge
Cons: problem with rack, silent recall

OEM Subaru Steering rack

The STI rack blows. There is no need for a faster ratio and all it does in reality is make the steering bizarrely stiff and heavy. The STI rack truly sucks for motorsports. Trying going lock to lock with steering that heavy and big sticky tires. It's a workout and your times will suffer. And it's just plain annoying on the street.

Cons: bizarrely stiff, heavy steering, annoying on street, bad for motorsports
Vehicle: Subaru

I have a 2016 civic, got it in 2019 with 35k miles. Didn’t notice any issues until a couple years ago. I have about 80k miles now. The sticky steering has slowly gotten worse, and is worse with warmer weather. I think it is partly electrical. 2 years ago my car battery died and I replaced it, then all of a sudden the sticky steering immediately improved. And I realized that my wheel was actually sticky before. I wasn’t sure if I had imagined that my steering was off until I replaced the battery and it became so smooth. Well that didn’t last. It has since gotten worse again. It is a constant battle when I am driving and I fear people think I’m drunk because I’m constantly having to adjust to keep the car as straight as I can. And it’s scary when I turn on a slow speed and have to accelerate onto the interstate. I feel like it tries to go a different way.

Pros: steering improved after battery
Cons: sticky steering, gotten worse, scary to drive
Vehicle: Honda Civic
Mileage: 128747 km

I’m having same issue here. Mine started 20k miles and currently on 22.5k. Minor correction is always needed on freeway/highway above 35+ mph. Went to two different service center and both told me everything is fine.

One thing that tech did for me was reset steering sensor and it was fine for few days and came back.

I don’t know what outcome will I get but going to reach out to Honda of America.

Cons: sticky steering issue, minor correction needed, temporary fix
Vehicle: Honda Civic
Mileage: 22500 km
