My last CRV lasted 17 years and 197,000 miles on basic maintenance alone - oil, tires, brakes, and a starter.

Pros: basic maintenance, lasted 17 years
Vehicle: Honda

That was a starter hanging up in my 2008 Fit. Only when cold. Replaced the starter, problem went away.

Pros: problem went away
Cons: hanging up when cold
Vehicle: Honda Fit

It seems to work pretty well, AC/heat keep blowing with the engine off in well designed systems. Starter is often much better than conventional starters, bringing engine to higher RPM at start which reduces the normal issues with constant start-stop.

Pros: AC/heat keep blowing
Cons: poor implementation

Toyota 2UZ is in the same spot, and the original starter in those can last well past 250k miles when they're not being roasted by the exhaust and drenched in water regularly.

Pros: starter lasts long
Vehicle: Toyota
Mileage: 402336 km

Yes that is a bad starter. I actually had the starter kill a replacement battery since I thought it was that and had to get another one (thankfully under warranty through Walmart)

Pros: covered under warranty
Cons: killed replacement battery
Vehicle: Honda Civic
Mileage: 20000 km

I have an 01 sequoia, so same engine and had to do mine at around 250k. It was starting on its way out, slower cranking, occasionally it just wouldn't crank, just typical issues of one needing replaced.

Pros: Slower cranking
Cons: wouldn't crank
Vehicle: Toyota Sequoia
Mileage: 250000 km

I had to replace the starter in my 2015 at only 75k miles. Highway miles at that. It was not a cheap starter either.

Cons: not a cheap starter
Vehicle: Honda Fit
Mileage: 120700 km
