Mine made that noise a few years ago; ripped it apart and re-greased it, and the sound went away until this summer, and I gave in and bought a new Bosch unit.
But a lot of stuff is available as white label stuff, ie: the starter cost the same as any other car starter when I got the generic Bosch version.
DIYer advice: when I go on RockAuto's website, I see that Bosch offers 2 different starter motors: one for the manual, with 0.8 kW, and one for the automatic, with 1.0kW (click on the Info buttons for that information).
I replaced on my 2016 with a brand new Bosch. In 2019. Still going strong
I have the Bosch Starter for my 3.0, my last replacement from autozone that was 200+ didn’t even last 2 years, Bosch still going strong and I have cheap duratrash as a backup in my tool chest but it’s been collecting dust!!
I submitted the VIN # to the dealer and he said it is the Bosch starter...$591...
I changed the starter motor for a Bosch starter in April 24 but after a few months the issue came back.
Maybe starter motor is failing
As preventive maintenance I replaced my starter with a new remanufactured starter by Bosch, part number SR0822X. Wouldn't start after I moved it from the wash bay to vacuum the inside. I heard a click and that was it. The starter didn't try to turn the engine at all.
Again this is a brand new starter actually it's a rebuilt starter which is Bosch OEM. When I did remove the old starter and put in this new rebuilt Bosch OEM starter the car started right up. The next day I went out to start it and all I got was one loud "CLICK"!
