I had a customer that went through 4 starters from Napa. When I diagnosed it the starter was not fully engaging and grinding on the flywheel. Told them I needed to get a starter from Honda. After arguing and arguing and doubting and more arguing, the new starter from Honda fixed it.

Pros: Honda starter fixed issue
Cons: Napa starters failed

If your battery is draining and/or this happens on every start, replace the starter. Had similar issues and replaced the starter and car starts way smoother now.

Pros: car starts way smoother

Over the years I've read that the Element starter can start to go bad with just slightly different than normal reasons - most usual is a clicking or the car just not turning over.

Cons: clicking, not turning over
Vehicle: Honda Element

I’ve had the issue for a long time, since it was 11,000 miles or so, the dealer then diagnosed it with various things and replaced the starter, battery twice, and most recently in 2023, the button was replaced under recall.

Pros: button replaced under recall
Cons: car simply stopped starting
Vehicle: Honda Fit
Mileage: 11000 km
