I run 0.024 but I’m running Brisk plugs in my car on a custom tune. They’re pre-gapped to 0.026 and anywhere between those two would work fine for my specific plugs.
I found that it had Autolite Iridum spark plugs. They didn’t look bad and were gapped appropriately but I replaced them anyway with the recommended NGK spark plugs. Car has ran perfectly since then with no misfires or stuttering.
I now have the new plugs which are autolite gapped at .027 as it is suggested by autolite and also in the Bentley book.
The truck is currently using Autolite XP5245 iridiums. Normally I would go with something from NGK but I figured if the Autolites were a decent price I would get them and they would probably last the life of the truck
If its just painted like some cheap plugs such as some autolites then yes its needed.
Autolites last as long for me as the NGK's. Either of them last about 10k miles for me. Any longer than that and I start getting missfires. The Autolites can be found for about $1.00 each
My experience with auto lite has been complete trash, and their review ratings are always great. Anybody else have problems with auto lite plugs?
Throw them away, they're shit plugs. Autolite just didn't crack the code for making quality iridium plugs at a super cheap price. I wouldn't even put these in my lawn mower.
Don't buy Autolite spark plugs. They suck. I had 2 out of 4 in a pack that were faulty and failed within days of installing them.
When we got our 535xi one of the first things I did was visit the local parts place to buy new spark plugs for the N54. After driving the car a while and visiting many BMW discussion boards I learned most folks have a very low opinion of them
