Oil filter Mann or OEM Honda

Mann Oil filter

I went from 20w60 to 10w50 and now I don’t get that cold start rattle. If you’re in a super cold part of the world I’d go for a 10w or 5w oil, with a higher 2nd number for good viscosity for an engine @170,xxx kilometres. Also, make sure you run quality oil filters, like Mann filters as the cheaper filters seem to not have very good quality anti-drainback check valves in them.

Pros: no cold start rattle
Cons: metallic rattle sound (with 20w60)
Mileage: 170000 km

Mann Oil filter

Got a workshop quote me for engine oil change $550. I do it myself with liquid moly and Mann oil filter cost me $200.

It's fun DIY your car, changing engine oil isn't too difficult , just learn from YouTube.

And it's only takes 30 mins to do it.

Pros: fun DIY, not difficult
Cons: workshop quote expensive

OEM Honda Oil filter

Try using an OEM Honda '03' oil filter (the filter code ends in 03). This should solve the noise it makes only when the engine is cold. This happens because other filters don't retain the oil properly, causing a slight delay of about a second when you start the car to lubricate the timing chain, resulting in the noise.

Pros: solves noise when cold
Cons: slight delay to lubricate
Vehicle: Honda

Sure, VW does not make oil or filters, but it's easy to find out who makes those products for VW. VW has a lot riding on what they recommend a lot more than NAPA. Is there any reason why you trust NAPA vs VW? Do yourself a favor, get an OEM filter and an oil that passes VW specs. MANN, Hengst, and Mahle and the common OEM filters [in that order].

Pros: OEM filters recommended
Cons: NAPA not trusted

So that DTC sets when there is an oil pressure issue originating from the oil filter up to the bank 2 VTC solenoid and actuator, using an aftermarket item could possibly lend to this issue

OEM Honda Oil filter

I ordered these 15400-RTA-003 oil filters on eBay for my FL5. The box and shrink wrap don't match the photos in any of the listings I've seen on and off eBay, except for this one place, which seems kind of suspicious.

Cons: suspicious box and wrap
Vehicle: Honda
Part number: 15400-RTA-003
