Oil filter Fram or OEM Hyundai
Fram FE9688 for my WRX and BRZ too. I’m tempted to run two oil changes to one filter change as the filter says it’s good up to 25,000 miles.
All you need
to do is change your oil
And oil filter every 5000 miles OR 6 months using a high quality FULL SYNTHETIC Oil and a quality ( HYUNDAI) oil filter!!
fresh clean fill of Ravenol 10W-40 TSI (semi synthetic) with a Fram oil filter
Ran whatever fram filter they had. Regular, tough guard and the synthetic. Over 500,000 km doing synthetic oil and a fram filter every 15,000km. It’s still going. That’s over 40 fram filters, never had a problem
Their high end filters(ultra synthetic, tough guard) are quality filters, but I would stay away from their economy filters, same goes for any other similar filter
I do tend to be picky about filters though. I like Wix, OEM AC Delco, and Mobil 1. I will avoid Fram like the plague.
No, that's not normal or good.Fram is junk - my mechanic told me a good oil filter would never collapse like that. When it does, it constricts the oil and it's not filtering properly. Go with an OEM filter, or go with Mann.I do oil changes every 15k (as per manufacturer) and I used a Fram once, and it looked like that. Since then, only used Mann or OEM and they look the same when I pulled it out after 15k.Do not cheap out on oil filters.
I am in Canada(Quebec) and my brother had the same issue(engine knocking with 42,000km) about a month ago with his 2022 CX5 Non turbo that he bought used last summer. I used a FRAM XG6607 for his oil change. He went to the Dealership and they voided the warranty as it was not a Mazda oil filter, and they said that the rubber gasket of the oil filter was sucked in the engine. The Dealer said that we have to contact FRAM to submit a claim. My brother needed his car asap so he got the engine replaced as it was knocking badly and metal particles were in the oil. Now he has his CX5 back and paid almost $7,000.
Same on my 1.8l Cruze using a FRAM filter. no light but it built up enough pressure it blew the oil cooler seal. Milage went from 6.5l per 100 to 12.5l per 100k
Not Fram, never Fram, if you like poor quality filters that are rusty out of the box go with Fram but if you like your engine do not go with Fram
