I've used nothing but Fram on my 16 forester 2.5i. Just hit 102k miles. I change the oil and filter every 3-4k and have never had an issue.

Pros: no issues, long-term reliability
Mileage: 164153 km

Fram Oil filter

I still prefer to use the Fram Tough Guard TH3614 bc the grip tip. Makes it easier to remove.

Pros: easier to remove
Vehicle: Toyota
Part number: TH3614

I personally don’t use k&n oil filters. They filter great but I’m not a fan of their flow.

Pros: filter great
Cons: not a fan of their flow

I agree with the 20W50 and good filter stay away from Fram, Bosch and Generic or Store Branded filters as they will give you the blinky oil light at idle controlled by the Canned Sensor on the right side of the head as you look at the engine.

Pros: good filter, correct oil
Cons: blinky oil light

Fram Oil filter

Ends up the Fram 9584 does NOT have the correct size holes. Both are the same and smaller diameter. It will NOT fit over the base without ripping. However, the Fram 9584XL does.

Cons: incorrect size holes
Part number: 9584XL
