Ignition coil Bosch or MSD

MSD Ignition coil

i had a MSD 6a with blaster 2 coil installed on my turbo ABA. it did drive much better/smother. the hardest part was to take apart the stock coil. but after that it was quick.

Pros: drive much better/smother

the car does seem to idle smoother but I can't really make a valid comparision since I installed a new dist. rotor along w/ the coil. The real reason I chose this coil is because it was about 60-70 bucks cheaper than the oem unit and who knows... maybe the hotter spark will help out.

Pros: smoother idle, cheaper coil

Definitely gave it more spark because my car idled higher and the inside of my coil wire where it connected to MSD had all types of bright green/blue corrosion starting. Definitely noticed a major difference in idle when I took the MSD out. Car was a lot quieter and idle was smoother.

Pros: more spark, smoother idle
Cons: corrosion starting

MSD Ignition coil

i believe the hotter spark and the MSD system created a smoother running car. i switched back and forth between the stock coil and the MSD. while the stock coil did work, the MSD made the car run smoother and didn't break up at higher boost levels. the MSD blaster 2 coil is a lot cheaper than the stock coil also. no more cracked coil housings.

Pros: smoother running car, cheaper coil
Cons: none

MSD Ignition coil

I burned out 2 jacobs coils using the Bosch ICM with CIS before I put in a MSD blaster that held up fine. The Jacobs would get burning hot to the touch, I returned them to autozone.

Pros: MSD blaster held up fine
Cons: Jacobs coils burned out
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Bosch Ignition coil

I ended up getting a brand new Bosch ignition coil from German Autoparts for around $160 shipped with a few other small parts. This was around November last year.

Pros: brand new

Bosch Ignition coil

Many aftermarket coils are completely out of spec and do not work well, some can even destroy the ECU. OE, Bosch, Temic are all good, I believe Beru is an OE manufacturer as well.

Pros: OE, Bosch, Temic are good
Cons: aftermarket coils out of spec

MSD Ignition coil

MSDs are good coils and are meant for racing and not daily abuse. I will guarantee that after time it will crack due to the engine heat, use, etc. May not be for years, but eventually it will.

Pros: good coils, racing purpose
Cons: crack due to engine heat
