Engine oil VALVOLINE or OEM BMW

VALVOLINE Engine oil

I too have used the SynPower since 16,000 miles. The tested sample had 8100 miles on it and had very good readings. I also had the Total Base Number tested which is the additive package. It was 2.0 which is low. They suggested I go no longer than 8100 miles on this oil in my engine due to the additives being low.

Pros: very good readings
Cons: additives being low
Vehicle: Saab
Mileage: 13035 km

I ran this fill from mid Fall through the winter until 4/14/03. I filled up with about .25 of a qt 3000 miles into the interval. Analysis done by Blackstone Laboratories. Total miles on oil: 4,886 DAVID: Although we expect an engine’s break-in period to be past by about 10,000 miles, we suspect that the 5 ppm lead we found in this sample is from lingering wear-in. Upper-end wear (see aluminum, chrome, and iron) looks great. Lead should decrease in the next sample, as should silicon, which is leftover sealers used at the factory. Insolubles were good at 0.4%, showing your oil filtration system is getting the job done.

Pros: Upper-end wear looks great
Cons: lead from lingering wear-in
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 7863 km

I am the person who posted those Valvoline 5w-40 vs. Mobil 1 10w-30 results long ago and started spreading the word about this oil and where to find it. The results show that the Vavloline 5w-40 is a very good choice for this motor. The last sample had nearly 9,000 miles on it, and the oil was well within viscosity and oxydation tolerances for 5w-40, and labeled suitable for continued use. Further, after 9,000 miles, wear metals were very low.

Pros: very good choice, wear metals low
Mileage: 9000 km

Valvoline Synpower also meets as many specs as Syntec. Synpower 5w-40 meets API SL/SJ, ACEA A3, and VW 502.00 and VW 505.00. Plus, you can get it for less than 5 bucks a quart

Pros: meets many specs, less expensive
Vehicle: Volkswagen

funny how many people have switched... from mobil to valvoline. I did too over 2 years ago with great results w/ regard to oil consumption at least. I also run the 5w-40

Pros: great results, less oil consumption
