VALVOLINE Engine oil

Valvoline Synpower 5w 30 is on the approved list for VW usage, doesnt make it THE choice but whatever floats your boats I guess and in this case it looks like R P floats you the best

Pros: approved list for VW

Valvoline SynPower full synthetic ) 5-40 (P/N VV966) is not on the VW approved oil list. But it certainly is approved, just read the label on the bottle:\"VW 502/505/505.01\"

Pros: VW 502/505/505.01 approved

VALVOLINE Engine oil

A lot of the guys I know ended up running valvoline VR1 20W-50 (A Dino oil, fwiw) because that was the only thing that keeps their rod bearings alive for more then a couple of weekends. Switching from thinner oil to that made the difference between changing bearings every couple of weekends to once a year.

Pros: keeps rod bearings alive
Cons: thinner oil not effective

I also have a 2.0 and run the valvoline synthetic. I started after 2500m and am currently at 29k. No scientific results here other than keeping track of mileage in a little notebook and looking back at the first month compared to the most recent - I'm averaging about 7mpg more.

Pros: improved fuel economy
Mileage: 29000 km

VALVOLINE Engine oil
vasillalov
  • Engine noise:
Rating 4.5

All these problems are not present in the Valvoline SuperSynth 5W-40 sample. Furthermore, the results from this Valvoline are well below the Universal averages for this engine. This suggests that I should be able to run this oil for at least another 1000-2000 miles and still get an excellent report out of it! With it, my engine runs bit smoother and quieter especially at idle. At high engine speeds the engine feels more responsive and more lively. Another difference is that with Valvoline, I am observing improved efficiency. My 2.0 broke its own record of fuel efficiency: 34.3 miles to the gallon on high way. The improvement is 3.3-3.9 miles per gallon compared to Mobil1.

Pros: smoother engine, quieter idle, more responsive, improved efficiency
