Engine oil Mobil or VALVOLINE

Mobil Engine oil

Of course this is assuming you're using really good oil, something like Mobil1 ESP 5W-30 or at least the Castrol LL03 VW507.

Pros: really good oil

Mobil Engine oil

My TDI is now at 5000 miles, and per my personal preference I changed the oil. It is very simple with an oil extractor. Start to finish will take less than 20 minutes. This is a fast and simple way to change the oil and stay clean.

Pros: fast and simple
Mileage: 8046 km

Strictly anecdotal, but at 56,000 I switched from the usual suspect Castrol to Valvoline Synpower. Engine starts more smoothly and observed mileage on highway has gone from approx 30 to approx 34 mpg.

Pros: engine starts more smoothly
Mileage: 56000 km

Mobil Engine oil

IMO M1 0w40 is a very good oil that may do well in many cars. It is a master at being built to meet manufacturers specs.

Pros: meets manufacturers specs
Cons: high shear, high iron levels
