Engine oil Mobil or OEM Toyota

Mobil Engine oil

Anyway, the only 508.00 spec oil I've found locally has been this Mobil 1 ESP X2 at Wally World. (walmart) Anyone else running it? Anyone seen any deep analyses? I put lots of Mobil 1 Delvac through 2 TDIs totalling 485k miles, so I'm willing to bet on this Mobil 1. I like being able to pick it up locally, and at only $28 for 5 quarts!?

Pros: easy to pick up locally
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 40000 km

I use either Mobil 1 ESPx2 European Car Formula 0W-20 available at Walmart or Valvoline Full Synthetic European Vehicle 0W-20 from NAPA. Both are approved VW 508 00 oils and can be cheaper than the oil at the dealer.

Pros: cheaper than dealer oil

I've always put Mobil1 High Mileage in my 2013 Scion tC, IIRC Mobil1 is what Toyota uses at the factory. I had a heavy upper oil pan gasket leak that's largely stopped since switching to high mileage oil.

Pros: leak largely stopped
Cons: heavy oil pan leak

Rating 5.0

I use 0w40 Mobil 1 all year round. I live in upstate New York, so our winters can get pretty cold at times, and summers can be in the 90s F for days at a time.

My V70 2.5T is almost at 190k miles. I add about 1 quart of oil between oil changes at 5k intervals and my car has been trouble-free since I purchased it at 107k miles in 2017.

Pros: trouble-free
Cons: add 1 quart between
Vehicle: Volvo V70
Mileage: 305777 km

Mobil-1 5w30 ESP (what most ppl use since it’s cheap but I’ve heard it isn’t the best, was recommended these others by a guy who’s been dealing with/tuning German diesels forever)

Pros: cheap
Cons: not the best

I used US Mobil 1 0W-40 in my old 1.8T (mk4). I used it for two changes (finished off a box) and always found it was burnt at only 3k miles. You could smell it as soon as I pulled the dipstick out.

Pros: easy to find
Cons: burnt at 3k miles
Mileage: 3000 km
