I like this oil, I believe it was Castrol Syntec from the factory (says so on the oil cap) but it became slightly hard to find and the Liqui Moly has been great oil so whatever. I changed my oil last year at about 9500mi and it didn't even get dark until about 7k miles.
I did first oil change on Atlas at 5k then did 10k changes, but the 3.6 is lethargic compared to the GTI which I have been doing about every 4k miles.
My B9.5 S5 went through a quart about 3000 miles into the last oil change. This oil change that im on now I havent had the light come on and im at about 5000 miles which is when I change oil. I started taking mine to an Indie shop and they use Liqui Moly oil plus they add this little bottle of addative thats supposed to help lubricate the piston rings better.
I run OW-30 Liqui moly that doesn’t burn any oil either.
I switched to liquimoly oil, mine uses a quart roughly every 3k miles but no issues.
I've added only one quart of oil to all the VWs I have owned over the past 35 years. I check the oil every 3 months, and get the oil and filter changed annually. I don't think that modern engines consume oil, at least, not for the first 100K miles of their life.
None of my MK7, 7.5 GTIs or GLIs consumed any. Nor does my MK8.
I use Liqui Moly 5W-40 which is on the VAG 502 and 505 list.
After 6 months of ownership, I have not lost any oil/ needed to add any oil. My MK7 1.8 TSI Golf SportWagen was the same way. Never needed to add a drop between the 10k mile oil changes. Not complaining at all. Quite the contrary. Just hit 6000 miles and the oil still looks new. I was originally planning on 5k mile oil changes but decided 7500 miles makes more sense for me at least.
Running LM 10W-60 full synthetic in my S14. After 5000miles I can't say one is better than the other. Does the job, still has healthy color. Motul was also fine, no debris in oil filter, normal discoloration.
