I used to only run Castrol Edge or Mobil 1 in both my 5.2 and 3.0T. the 3.0T didn't seem to care what it ran, but the 5.2 would burn off both of those at a rate of roughly 1200 miles per quart. After having to do a yearly(25k mile) intake pull to clean the valves/intake, I switched to Liqui moly Leichtlauf for the 5.2 and Molygen for the 3.0T. 5w40 regardless of which oil or engine.

as before, the 3.0T doesn't seem to care other than a slightly reduced amount of magnetic schmoo on the magnetic drain plug. So, better, but not a significant difference.

The 5.2 has pushed the oil consumption into the 2000 mile per quart range, the valves only had maybe 1/3 of the buildup as before and I'm no longer pushing small amounts of oil into the spark plug wells. So, undeniably better for me. Magnetic drain plug looks better here as well too.

Pros: reduced oil consumption
Cons: high oil consumption
Vehicle: Audi S8

Castrol Engine oil

Personally I buy exactly the factory oil, from a manafacturer that factory put in, in German cars it's Castrol, French are Total and Elf, Italians use Petronas Selenia.

Pros: factory oil, correct weight

i'm using the liqui moly 5w40 oil in my R, as well as previous owner has also used this oil. I absolulely love it. i also used to use in my 11 GTI previously as before using this oil i used to use the mobil 1 0w40 in the gti, but since i've switched to the liqui moly the engine used to run so much smoother.

Pros: engine runs smoother

Castrol Engine oil

And one thing I would definitely do is get the Castrol out of there if you intend to keep the car long-term. The recent changes to the oil we are delivered at the dealer is crazy!!! It's not the same as it used to be and I can tell a huge difference in my cars. Have had excess oil consumption, lower MPG and quicker deterioration of the oil over last 6 months using Castrol(and I work at dealer)

Pros: lower MPG
Cons: excess oil consumption
Vehicle: Volkswagen
