Engine oil Eneos or OEM Volkswagen

OEM Volkswagen Engine oil

I did first oil change on Atlas at 5k then did 10k changes, but the 3.6 is lethargic compared to the GTI which I have been doing about every 4k miles.

Pros: regular oil changes
Cons: 3.6 is lethargic
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 8046 km

OEM Volkswagen Engine oil

I've added only one quart of oil to all the VWs I have owned over the past 35 years. I check the oil every 3 months, and get the oil and filter changed annually. I don't think that modern engines consume oil, at least, not for the first 100K miles of their life.

Pros: minimal oil consumption
Mileage: 160934 km

OEM Volkswagen Engine oil

After 6 months of ownership, I have not lost any oil/ needed to add any oil. My MK7 1.8 TSI Golf SportWagen was the same way. Never needed to add a drop between the 10k mile oil changes. Not complaining at all. Quite the contrary. Just hit 6000 miles and the oil still looks new. I was originally planning on 5k mile oil changes but decided 7500 miles makes more sense for me at least.

Pros: oil still looks new
Mileage: 6000 km

Just keep the right viscosity oil in it and monitor the oil temp. You might be able to read oil temp from you ECU through the obd port. 120-130C is very ok with good synthetic oil.

I blew up a VW polo with the wrong oil and high oil temps.

Pros: good synthetic oil ok
Cons: wrong oil high temps
Vehicle: Volkswagen Polo

OEM Volkswagen Engine oil

This is not fine. VW oils like 502, 504, 508 and 511 are not typical oils. They have a different additive package and the viscosity is different, like the extended performance 5w30 is not the same viscosity as a 504 5w30. The 504 is thicker and is closer to a 40w.

Pros: different additive package
Cons: viscosity is different
