Engine oil Castrol or OEM Volkswagen

Castrol Engine oil

It seems 15w-40 is the standard diesel weight. I bought Castrol last time because it was on a good promo sale.... 5 quarts and filter for $5 (after rebate).

Pros: good promo sale

Given that it's almost guaranteed that this was not a turbo engine originally (the lack of factory air filter is another clue) she'll run hotter than usual and so a quality oil is a good investment.

Pros: quality oil is a good investment
Cons: run hotter than usual

Castrol Engine oil

I recently swapped to German Castrol 0w30, it starts high 30 and stays high 30, so far, I've experienced no oil loss - but it's too early to say, but it makes sense.

Pros: no oil loss
Cons: too early to say

I have been using Castrol 0W30 European Formula all year round and it offers great protection in the coldest cold and the Highest Humid Heat. I used to use Mobil One 0W40 but it seems my car likes the Castrol 0W30 better since it runs smoother and gets a tad better gas mileage.

Pros: runs smoother, better gas mileage
Vehicle: Audi TT
