MOTUL Engine oil
Jay-Bee
  • Engine noise:
Rating 5.0

Switching from dino 5w30 (previous owner) to Motul 5w40 in my 2.0 8v reduced oil consumption drastically, quieted lifter noise and increased MPGs.

Pros: reduced oil consumption, quieted lifter noise
Mileage: 10000 km

I prefer to use castrol gtx 20w-50 year round, but I'm being cheap lately. I've put over 120k on my 16v with this stuff so far

Pros: preferred year round, long-term reliability
Mileage: 193121 km
Part number: GTX 20W-50

MOTUL Engine oil

Love Motul I Agree that the recomendation is not always best for the engine. I work in Miami and I see that the dealer recomends Castrol and Mobil 1... which will never be better than euro synthetics which are the ones recomended in europe which have higher standards.

Pros: euro synthetics better

Castrol Engine oil

I'm using Edge 5w-30 too. Seems to do well in 1.8t... This is the dealer OE oil, if it's VW 504 it could be a problem with lowered additive levels for emissions protection, which does not work well with our fuel and engine tune in North America, although it is necessary to use in TDIs (VW 507). imo, Edge is the best of all words, a premium base oil, but with more additives than VW 504 or other low saps oil.

Pros: premium base oil, more additives

Castrol Engine oil

I use Castrol 10w-40 and it works great. I have no issues with the cam follower and also never have to add oil in between oil changes.

Pros: works great, no oil addition needed
Part number: 10W-40
