Brakes are too small and while not a safety issue per se, they do tend to warp due to heat. I had to replace my front brakes every 12-20k miles initially. Went to slotted/drilled rotors that got me ~40k miles. Finally "upgraded" to the 2013+ brakes which solved the problem for good.

Pros: solved the problem for good
Cons: warp due to heat

As you can see I have a 2016 GTI PP (Big Brake). I love the car and the brakes are outrageous. At over 140 MPH I had to get on them hard because somebody decided to move left because he didn't like me driving fast. They are fantastic.

Pros: brakes are outrageous
Vehicle: Volkswagen

I've had my black/black 2020 R-Line for 2 months and ~3.5k miles now. I work in sales, and it's great for visiting and entertaining customers. I'd give it a 8/10. Pros: LED headlights are excellent Comfortable ride when cruising on the expressway Comfortably fits four 6-ft plus adults Nice sporty lines for such a large car MPG Lane assist and ACC Huge trunk (for beer league hockey on weekends) Remote start (this'll be huge in the winter) Well appointed for the price Cons: Brakes... no linear feel. It's nothing nothing nothing, then STOP Engine is under powered for a car this size Automatic transmission wants to move too fast for my liking when you release the brake at a stop No visual TPMS (one of my biggest VW gripes. I want to know the actual pressure) Seats don't offer much bolstering, and no lumbar support in the passenger seat Wish the steering wheel telescoped out more. I'm 6'3" and for ideal leg-room, my arms are nearly at full lock. R-line wheels... they just aren't appealing to me

Pros: LED headlights are excellent, comfortable ride
Cons: brakes no linear feel, engine underpowered
Mileage: 5632 km

I don’t have warping or shimmy issues but above 50ish mph when braking I get this loud whirl or hum type of thing. It’s very loud it’s from the rear. I never had this issue on my s3 and it’s the same setup minus the pads. Not sure. I’m thinking of getting golf r or s3 pads and installing them.

Pros: no warping or shimmy
Cons: loud whirl or hum from rear
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 11000 km

Brakes don't squeal, but, at least when they're cold, they seem to grind/shudder/skip (not a warped rotor type of shudder) at low speeds.

Pros: brakes don't squeal
Cons: grind/shudder/skip when cold
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 1500 km

Check for brake pad deposits, VW uses absolute garbage for pads these days. My 2019 Alltrack has pad deposits at 9k miles (owned it barely 9 months, bought new) and they are only good willing 75% and I am going to drag them through the mud about it every chance I get.

Cons: garbage pads, pad deposits
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 9000 km

The EXACT same on my trend line 2018 Golf. Just a further note. When we brought it in so they could look at the brakes due to our complaint, there was black ‘goop’ all over the rest of the rear suspension of the golf. The service manage could only theorize that the brake pads ‘melted’ and basically sprayed the wheel well... on BOTH rear wheels.

Pros: replaced all parts
Cons: brake pads melted, black goop
