I really love driving it though, particularly the brakes and the handling.
I did install Hawk HP+ pads w/Centric high carbon blank rotors and flushed the system with Motul 600 brake fluid. That setup has worked well on my girlfriend's Cooper S while it did double duty on track weekends. So, it should work for this car.
Hawk HPS are GREAT.
Hawk HPS5.0 pads front and rear with slotted StopTech rotors.
For track and autocross on my Miata I use Hawk HP+ and ATE Type 200 brake fluid. Both work really well, though the pads are likely overly aggressive for a daily driver.
I use (and like) ATE type 200 fluid and Hawk HPS or Ferodo DS2500 pads, for autox.
brakes i would go with Zimmerman, ATE or Brembo rotors. now for pads go with Hawk HPS 5.0. the just very little and STOP. Plus they are easy on rotors. i know because i have them.
Brakes were great, no fade issues(Hawk Ceramic 5.0 pads up front, stockers in the rear) running Motul RBF. Mixed conditions so I had a little of everything, rain, drying, damp. NO bias problems at all, no issues w/the ABS doing funky things. The car didn't want to throw itself off track or anything like that, even in the rain. Just very progressive feel. They put up with me having to trailbrake the crap out of this car so I figure they did ok.
I have hawk HPS on mine. Dust wise they arent too bad. But I wouldnt mind something cleaner. They do the same thing and hang over the inner edge a bit.
I would stay away from Hawk pads. I've never had good luck with them... terrible feel when cold, poor lifespan and even had two sets start chunking and coming off backing plate.
