Brake pads Ferodo or OEM Volvo

Ferodo Brake pads

I also run Motul RBF600 fluid and Ferodo DS2500. I use my R as DD (~13K miles/year) and about 10 track days per year. Setup is fine for both and I recommend it as a good setup for your situation.

Pros: fine for both
Mileage: 13000 km

I typically run RBF600 with Ferodo DS2500, changed at the beginning of spring and after each HPDE (back to OEM brake fluid in the winter). Massive improvement over the stock for sure, but at the end of a 2 day track weekend the pedal will be on the softer side, which improves after brake flush.

Pros: massive improvement over stock
Cons: pedal softer side

I have had good success with Ferodo DS2500 pads front and rear, OEM rotors, and RBF600 (or equivalent) brake fluid. The Ferodo pads were fine to use for the street (no noise, normal dust, and seem reasonably rotor friendly) and competent on the track.

Pros: no noise, rotor friendly

Ds2500 are at least oem dust level from what I've heard but better performance and they do squeak a bit.

Pros: better performance
Cons: squeak a bit

Replaced my pads and rotors about a year ago. Went with some steel slotted rotors and Ferodo DS2500 pads, for a total of probably less than $1000 all around. The Ferodo pads are much more linear/progressive in feel, whereas in my opinion the OEM pads had way too much initial bite and were too grabby, which is less than ideal when you're trying to be smooth. Additionally, the ferodo pads hold out far longer on the track before fading, while still handling adequately for daily driving (including in the winter).

Pros: linear/progressive feel, longer lasting
Cons: OEM pads too grabby

Up for sale are new Ferodo DS2500 brake pads for an MK7 Golf R. I had bought these to replace my noisy new Hawk pads, but have decided to just stick with the noisy hawk pads.

Cons: noisy hawk pads

SOLVED - I simply overheated the pads. Spoke to Ferodo and I followed their advice: Bed in was fine. Overheating led to pad material bake to the rotors. 120 grit block sanding on the rotors removed this. Pads were a little glazed but 80 grit sanding removed the shiny bits. Bed in again and running well but haven’t pushed it yet so unsure if the pads are done.

Pros: running well after sanding
Cons: overheating, pad material baked to rotors
