Brake pads Carbotech or Hawk Performance

Hawk Performance Brake pads

I was using dtc 60s for the last half of last year and they lived up great through 7 days of tracking (8mm/5mm remaining rear/front), however the aggressive bite has a learning curve and is prone to ice pedal on my car. I'm switching to their ERS-1 pad this year and expecting them to last even longer.

Pros: long lasting, good performance
Cons: aggressive bite, ice pedal
Vehicle: Porsche

I’m currently running Hawk HP+ on all 4 corners. I love how the pads feel and hold up- I don’t mind the noise but the dust is so so bad.

Pros: good feel, good stopping power
Cons: lots of dust

I used hawk pads a few years ago on my F150 and even though they were advertised as dust free, they put off some of the worst dust ever even after following the break in instructions. Nowadays, I am a huge Element3 fan boy. All the family vehicles have em and I have no complaints.

Pros: no complaints, Element3 fan
Cons: worst dust ever

Ive been really happy with the Hawk HPS 5.0 on 3 of my vehicles. Low noise low dust (and the dust it does make comes off with just car wash soap) and a noticeable increases in pedal feel.

Pros: low noise, low dust, good feel

I run Hawk HPS 5.0 they are good but we're spongy even after the recommended break in. I ended up doing a run and intentionally abusing the brakes to get them good and hot to the point that they faded. After that, they were great.

Pros: great after break in
Cons: spongy initially
Vehicle: Honda

I haven’t heard of fake brake pads but be careful. The main reason I’m commenting is HP+ pads might be good for autox but if you have experience on track, I’d avoid. Granted, my experience using them was on a 2015 WRX but you can overheat the pads pretty quickly on a heavy braking circuit.

Cons: overheat quickly

after about halfway through the second session I began to feel a fluttering under hard braking. Some light shaking of the steering wheel. No noticeable pulling left or right. No noticeable brake fade.

Fast forward to the next day. I noticed this black gunk on my front pads. The rears look good as new.

Under normal conditions my Hawk-30 pads squeak. Now I am noticing a rhythmic squeaking when I brake at street speeds.

Cons: fluttering under braking, steering wheel shaking, rhythmic squeaking, black gunk
Vehicle: Toyota
