Brake discs Zimmermann or OEM BMW

Zimmermann Brake discs

I use Zimmerman rotors on my XC60 and her BMW. Excellent bang for buck in my opinion. Don’t like brembo pads for the dust, use Akebono on BMW, Alebono or Volvo pads on Volvo for dust control.

Pros: excellent bang for buck, good dust control
Cons: Brembo pads dusty
Vehicle: Volvo XC60

check out the Zimmermann set from FCP. Much smoother, and almost no brake dust. And I believe they cover a full replacement under their warranty program.

Pros: smooth, little brake dust

Zimmermann Brake discs

I used Zimmermann replacements discs and pads on my B9 RS4 for 5 years/70k miles. Had 3 sets all around over that time. The front discs and calipers are the same as the etron. They were good products and hard to tell the difference from OEM.

Pros: good product, OEM quality
Vehicle: Audi RS4
Mileage: 70000 km

I replaced the front pads and rotors on my F20 M135i yesterday. Same Brembo brakes as yours. I did a lot of research, and there isn't really "better" than stock for the same money. The only better option would be to upgrade to bigger brakes, but that would cost way more. I ended up going with Zimmerman Z-coat two piece rotors and ATE pads. The Zimmerman rotors are the slotted and dimpled versions. BMW calls that the M Performance rotors as OE. They're the same size - 340mm. They reportedly don't give much of a performance increase, but they weigh about 8% less than standard discs. All together with the hardware (guide pins, caliper bolts, etc) was about £500 with shipping from Spareto.

Pros: 8% lighter, slotted and dimpled
Cons: no performance increase
Vehicle: BMW

In winter climates rust is the biggest wear and tear item on brakes. I went with coated i3 rotors from zimmerman at around 8 years and 55K km

Cons: rust prone
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 55000 km

Got a new brake set Zimmermann on my S5 and immediately got this look - the anti rust coating around the front rotor edges don’t want to come off. The rear ones are fine and have even wear. 1,5k miles later it’s still digging my eyes.

Pros: rear rotors fine
Cons: coating won't come off, front rotor edges issue
Vehicle: Audi S5
Mileage: 2414 km
