Brake caliper Brembo or Girling

Girling Brake caliper

I rebuilt my front and rear for maybe $60 total in parts. Just O-rings and cylinders, they don't really get more simple than this. It's hard to find parts for vented girling calipers since all the guys with solid rotors buy the vented disc calipers as an upgrade.

Pros: cheap repair, simple process
Cons: hard to find parts
Vehicle: Volvo

Brembo Brake caliper

I have 2006 porsche cayenne turbo calipers on my r32 skyline. It's a simple bracket that allows you to use 370z track rotors. The calipers are 6 piston brembo units. They were 100 CAD each at a specialty wreckers.

Pros: inexpensive, 6 piston
Vehicle: Nissan Skyline

Girling Brake caliper

Switching to a lightly modified 1990 Volvo 240 4-pot Girling caliper allowed me to go to vented front rotors and EBC track oriented pads!

Pros: vented rotors, better pads

I'm running the '14 STI front/rear Brembo calipers with DBA slotted rotors and EBC Yellow pads with steel braided lines. And Motul 5.1 fluid. I can pretty much out brake everyone in to the turns at the track or touge.

Also have Porsche 997 GT3 brake cooling ducts installed (yes they fit). I have zero heat/fading issues. The brakes can do hot laps for a full 20mins track session with no performance lost.

Pros: superior braking, no heat issues
Vehicle: Subaru Impreza WRX STi

Yesterday I took my E30 (325e sedan) to a brake shop...Both sides got the discs a bit warped and brake pads were uneven, so I got them resurfaced since they were still thick and new brake pads were installed. Right side got corrected and free right away but left side was still stuck even with the new brake pads. ...We discovered the caliper slider pins were bended and got them replaced but still the problem persisted. Guys at the shop told me I needed a new caliper on that side since it could be bended and that's why with the new brake pads it gets stuck since they're thicker. I already got a pair of new ones but will replace them tomorrow. Replaced both sides and now they’re working perfectly fine.

Pros: perfectly fine brakes
Cons: brake caliper stuck

I bought brand new girling calipers(33 bucks shipped on ebay c'mon!) Previously I ordered rotors from rockauto. Installing new unworn pads is impossible.not enough room.

Pros: new calipers, low price
Cons: pads do not fit

Girling Brake caliper

Those would be the Girling G60 (not to be confused with the Girling G54 that came on cars with G60 engines). IMHO too heavy and, at least over here, totally overpriced for what they are.

Pros: plentiful, dirt cheap
Cons: too heavy, overpriced

Brembo Brake caliper

I had lots of issues with my OEM M3 brakes. Not only did they overheat within a few laps regardless of pads and fluid, but also the feel was bad. Hard to modulate, squishy pedal, just no bueno. The OEM ones are single piston floating calipers. Bad.

Upgrade to Brembo 4 piston and even with cheap pads on the same rotors the pedal is way nicer, predictable, and is way easier to threshold brake.

Pros: better pedal feel, predictable braking
Cons: overheating, bad feel, squishy pedal
Vehicle: BMW
