I have always used an optima red top for all the cars I have owned. Never had an issue.
I have run an Interstate battery without issues for the last year, but recently switched to an Optima Red Top. Although I had to get creative in mounting the fuse box on top of the battery, it is nearly 200-300A more than the Interstate in regards to CCA and CA. I am highly impressed. My Escort 8500 has a built in voltmeter. When I would sit at idle with the Interstate battery with all accessories running (lights, A/C, radio) and with as hot has it's been as of late, I would get a low voltage warning (10.5 VDC) when it activated. With the Optima I have yet to see one.
I've got an optima yellow top & it fit w no problem. No modification whatsoever. You just gotta make sure tha +/- (positive/negative) are reversed.
I think we have an Optima in our Mk1 diesel.
Im running an optima redtop 1000 cca. Starts like a champ in -10 degree weather.
The other day I installed my Optima yellow top that was intended for my S10 into the GTI. Had to cram the battery cover top on a bit, but its on there! Funny now the car starts up alot faster. It always seemed like since I got this car it was slow to start, as if the battery was always low...
I upgraded to an Optima yellow top D35 in my GTI probably about six months go..no problems w/ it at all..the batter cover doesnt fit perfect, but you can make it work...i'm runnin bags with dual compressors and also a jl audio sub/amp system so i needed something with more power..which the yellow top has
I have the model 35 and the stock cover does fit over it: As far as long term, I haven't been super impressed... I've had my redtop die a few times over the last few years, not even from extended use... however it did get rid of issues I had with my lights dimming from the sub and if I decide to drive upside down it supposedly can handle that
I had an optima yellow top in my Jeep for 3 years. Then all of a sudden a cell died without warning, leaving me stranded in the desert when I went to start it. I will never buy another one. The duralast I replaced it with has been in there for about 4 years now with no problems. It also cost less than half what the optima was.
So ever since I put subwoofers in my car they seem to be killing my batteries. My original battery lasted about 2 years (car was barely used for these 2 years), battery after that lasted a year (replaced last summer), and now it seems as if my current battery is going. I wanted to grab food before going to work yesterday so I got some food at Mcdonalds and sat in my car for 20-30 mins eating and listening to music. I went to fill my car up with gas after work (gas station not even a mile away) and the car barely started, normally it turns over very quickly, you could tell the car was REALLY struggling due to battery (everything dimmed as well). This was at night so my headlights were on while I was filling up. At the beginning of summer I went to a drive-in and was able to watch an entire movie without my battery dying. The battery is a Duracell with 725 CCA and 890 CA @ 32F
