Battery OEM Volvo or OEM Volkswagen

OEM Volvo Battery

I’ve owned an S60 T8 for 2 and a half years now. Like others have said Volvo PHEVs deplete the battery first by default before touching the gas engine.

Pros: deplete battery first
Vehicle: Volvo S60

OEM Volvo Battery

I have been driving a 2023 S60 Recharge for 2 years now. If someone told you it's bad to drive them with the battery depleted, they lied to you.

Pros: rear wheels always powered
Vehicle: Volvo S60

Depending on the year/model of the car you might need to have the battery "registered" using a special tool after installing it.

VW OEM batteries in modern cars often do that. I was lucky to detect slightly "lazy" cranking in my 2018 GSW 4Mo. Tested and showed %51 SOH even after fully charging it. Lasted 6 years almost to the date.

Pros: lasted 6 years
Cons: lazy cranking, low state of health

The battery is trash - if it was at 4v, the cells are either internally buckled/shorted - or the AGM is damaged and thus will not hold any charge (no capacity).

Pros: check charging voltage/current
Cons: battery is trash

On the day of delivery itself, the car wouldn’t start. The dealership jump-started it and said there was a small battery issue, assuring me that it won’t happen again. But from that day onwards, the vehicle has never been reliable.

Cons: unreliable, starting issue
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 1000 km
