I had the alternator changed in one of my Phaetons. The overhead light was fluctuating when the engine was running. The problem was fixed when the tech replaced the alternator under warranty.
finally, i got tired of re-charging my car, that i finally got rid of that P.O.S. motorola alternator and swapped on a bosch reman.. been golden ever since then.
Had a noise when idling my 2005 passat 2.0 diesel auto. When I turned the wheel at idle the belt would chirp and jump( at the pwr steering pump). Found out I had a defective Schrage(sp?) pulley/clutch on my Bosch 120 amp alternator.
i had the same exact problem. tested the battery and alternator, both tested good. came across a fanactic VW mechanic. told him my problem, he test drove it for a couple of minutes. then he told me it was my alternator. my alternator is going bad. so i took his advise, bought a new bosch, and now, new more red light. plus the new alternator seemed to give me more power, thats from what i feel. probably just my imagination.
well i need a alternator because my bearing is about to fail and my buddy is selling me a BRAND NEW bosch unit for 50 bucks so why not...
I got a bosch when mine died on me. No complaints
my alternator is of the clutched variety. Its from a 1997 and will not contribute to the crank nose keyway issue. 90A Bosch $35 plus shipping
Yeah I just bought a bosch too and it was too wide also I had to hacksaw a mm off to get it to fit in my bracket.
Ok so I exchanged the alternator but just got it on this morning and the alternator i exchanged it with was a bosch which is a direct replacement of the original one i have, i hooked it all back up properly, new charge wire and its running at 11.4 volts now and still drops lol.
I had a Bosch reman that self-machined itself to pieces in less than a year on my street car - the car that rarely saw more than 5K rpms. The Bosch replacement seemed to work OK but I sold the car shortly thereafter.
