I've been using the K&N for three years.

I swap it for a new one every couple of years because washing it and re-oiling it is a pain and an art form! As the K&N cost twice as much as the paper filter but I keep it twice as long, it doesn't cost me more money.

The power gain is probably 0.0001%. but the filter changes the noise of your engine ever so slightly, it's slightly more aggressive. I'm about to have a Racing Beat ram air duct fitted which will add another 0.5 HP and some more aggressive noises.

On a serious basis, your car will breathe slightly batter with the K&N, so that's a benefit.

The K&N can "leak" some oil and it doesn't filter small particles as well as the paper filter. This means your MAF sensor is at risk of being contaminated. But I have it cleaned twice a year when I get the car serviced, so that solves/avoids this particular problem.

All in all, go K&N!!!!

Pros: slightly more aggressive noise
Cons: oil leak, poor filtration

I swapped all this, gas pedal, coil packs and checked all plugs, throttle body with TPS and IAC all as one unit, fuel pump, filter is already new. I did one thing at a time then test drove it, nothing made a difference in the issue. So I thought let me go back to the 2008 MAF, (had the 2006 MAF in it), I'll clean the 2008 MAF real good, and run with the Cone style K&N filter off. It took a few miles but it was a near instant fix, it ran perfect. I stopped and put the K&N Cone style air filter back on and drove 3 more miles, and it started to act up again and stalled on a slow turn. So I put the OE Air Filter box and tube etc.. back on, and WALLA!! It runs perfect. It was totally an Air Delivery issue!

Pros: near instant fix, runs perfect
Cons: started to act up, stalled
Vehicle: Ford Crown Victoria
Mileage: 109000 km

K&N Air filter

I'm gonna guess it's like k&n or aem. I've got k&n without the lid and I get some noticeable intake noise and when I shift from inside the car.

Pros: noticeable intake noise

I've been an OE filter fan since about 1999. Then I had an '87 Carrera and built a killer NA motor, Euro pistons, SC cams, ARP bolts everywhere, Ti bits, SSI headers, custom muffler, a custom Autothority chip, and a big fat K&N air filter. I was detailing the car for a concourse and removed the K&N. The intake runner was covered in gritty dust/dirt.

Cons: gritty dust/dirt
Vehicle: Porsche 911

I wouldnt use the k&n though. They dont offer any real advantage and the oil a k&n uses can foul the air mass sensor.

Cons: no real advantage, fouls sensor
