I got a 10 times cheaper windshield than the original one (saint-gobain went scratched in a year, “new pedestrian-safe glass technology”, Chinese is still alive after 2 years).

Pros: cheaper windshield
Cons: saint-gobain scratched

I had never replaced a winshield in over 20 years of driving until I got my 2018 MK7.5 Golf Alltrack. Rock, crack, new winshield.

had a large rock destroy the windshield of our Forester with EyeSight. The third-party shop (SafeLite) replaced it with OEM Subaru glass and recalibrated the EyeSight, and for the few months between then and trading it in we had no issues with the EyeSight at all.

Pros: no EyeSight issues
Vehicle: Subaru Forester

Pilkington Windshield

I was able to find a small specialist shop that did mine for $400 flat. Not OEM but Pilkinton. I did not have him do the calibration, he said you don't need it if the install is done correctly. I have had zero issues since.

Pros: zero issues

Still getting the runaround on trying to find a replacement. In my experience, the VW's windshields tend to chip & crack so easily. the aftermarket lasts so much longer.

Pros: aftermarket lasts longer
Cons: chips and cracks easily
Vehicle: Volkswagen

At least for NA the newer generation mazdas 2019+, which have an edgeless design are more prone then any previous generation to crack or spiderweb. I see it all the time on the Mazda 3, cx-5 and cx-30. My girlfriend's windshield cracked after sitting in the garage over a weekend. The new premium look is nice but the build issues.

Pros: nice premium look
Cons: prone to crack, build issues

Replaced the windshield on my 2023 CX-50 within the first 6 months. I've never had to replace a windshield on any of my previous Mazdas.

Cons: needed early replacement

We didn’t get any cracks in the few years we had a CX-30 but it’s definitely on the softer side as far as hardness goes. There were so many small nicks like any and all debris would sandblast it.

Pros: no cracks
Cons: soft, many small nicks
Vehicle: Mazda

'22 CX-30. Got a chip in my windshield about 3 months after buying it. I do a lot of highway driving and try to avoid driving behind big trucks that kick up a lot of debris but sometimes its unavoidable.

Cons: chipped easily
Vehicle: Mazda

I never scratched a windshield in my life until my 2024 Mazda. In the first month! The squeegee put an 8” scratch right in my line of sight. It drives me crazy.

Cons: scratched easily, scratch in line of sight
Vehicle: Mazda
