Ask for PPG or Pilkington replacement glass. OEM glass from VW/Audi is $$$ (and has to be ordered), and both PPG & Pilkington are OEM glass manufacturers. Cheaper alternatives are not any less "safe", but don't always fit as well, which can lead to stress cracks.

Pros: OEM glass manufacturers
Cons: fit issues, stress cracks
Vehicle: Audi A4

Conversion from glue-in to flex gasket windshield is a common modification. I recently converted my 84 Rabbit to a flex gasket/windshield and am very pleased with it. You don't need the "gator" clips and I don't like them. The glass for the flex rubber gasket has a slightly different dimension than the glue-in glass. Simply, order a windshield for a 1985 cabriolet from your glass store. My Pilkington brand with an upper tint band was about 130$ uninstalled.

Pros: pleased with it
Cons: don't like gator clips

I have a 2019 with 40000km and the windshield just cracked for the second time this week. Wasn't even a big chip that caused it.

Cons: cracked twice, not from big chip
Vehicle: Subaru Forester
Mileage: 40000 km

I own a 2017 Forester. I’ve had to have the windshield replaced twice due to it cracking all by itself. The NHTSA reports are absolutely true. The second time it sat at the dealer for over 4 months because they were on back order. This is all due to Subaru using thin lightweight glass to increase fuel economy for CAFE numbers.

Cons: cracks easily, long back order, thin glass
Vehicle: Subaru Forester

I have it on the eGolf and the trade off of seeing the heating elements is not worth the benefit. If you ever drive in direct sunlight, you'll see these hundreds of wires reflecting making it very difficult to see.

Pros: none
Cons: difficult to see
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Dealer informed me that my windshield was scratched at some point during the transit from Germany to Canada and offered to replace it as soon as they were able to get a new one. About two weeks after taking delivery of the car I brought it back to the dealer for replacement. I was worried and apprehensive they would screw something up, but went ahead because the scratch was quite big, noticeable and right in my field of view on the drivers side. Came back at the end of the day to pick up my car, and my worst fears were realized. Plastic around the mirror was all chewed up from installer trying to pry it apart with a screwdriver I assume. Both the driver and passenger pillar trims were all chewed up from when they were cutting the old windshield out. To top all that off, they put way too much of the sealant on the new window, so when they pressed it in it oozed onto the pillar trims on the inside of the car. Total butchers!!

Cons: plastic chewed up, sealant oozed

Out of nowhere last week, found my car with a big crack on the windshield leaving work for the day. The crack was not there when i parked. Closely inspected the windshield along the crack and no rock chip/pits whatsoever. Crack appeared almost dead center at the bottom edge and worked its way up. When i parked my car at work this morning, the crack had no bulged. But when got back to the car at noon for lunch, the crack had expanded. This in my opinion proves that the windshield was not installed properly and when the steel frame expands, it puts stress on the windshield cracking it. GTI MK7.5, 2500 miles.

Cons: cracked out of nowhere, crack expanded while parked, defective workmanship
Vehicle: Volkswagen Golf
Mileage: 4023 km
