I had my 2008 BMW 135i E88 for going on 14 years, it's about to hit 70k miles and looks like new. I've done a couple bolt-ones (IC, charge pipe, Cobb tune). It's been a great car and a blast to drive. I did replace the water pump this past summer otherwise normal maintenance.

Pros: great car, blast drive
Cons: water pump replacement
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 112654 km

OEM BMW Water pump

I’m on year 3 of a 2020 M240ix and it has cost me nothing besides regular maintenance and premium fuel. Now I expect that to change soonish, as at my last oil change I was told my water pump has a very slow leak and, at some point, will need to be replaced to the tune of $2k.

Pros: love the car
Cons: water pump leak
Vehicle: BMW

GMB Water pump

I have 20-25k miles on a GMB pump now and it hasn't leaked a drop. We'll see how long it goes, but so far I'm happy with it.

Pros: no leaks, reliable performance
Mileage: 32000 km

OEM Mazda Water pump

I have a 2018 mazda3 hatchback. It's hit two deer and still going. No issues with regular maintenance. Water pump went out around 100k miles, mechanic said that's normal. Love this car, probably will get a cx5 as a secondary car.

Pros: still going after deer hits, no issues with maintenance
Cons: water pump failure
Vehicle: Mazda
Mileage: 100000 km

OEM BMW Water pump

Buy the M340i new and prepay your services. Great on gas but insurances and tires have been expensive. Water pump blew at 48k.

Pros: great on gas
Cons: expensive tires, high insurance
Vehicle: BMW
Mileage: 77249 km

AISIN Water pump

The fel pro gasket set and head bolts + head bolt tool will be close to 300 and then you'll need RTV sealant. Another probably 200 for the Aisin water pump.

OEM FORD Water pump

2006 Ford Explorer with the V6. Somehow went through four water pumps in one year. Made of the cheapest ticky tacky bullshit.

Cons: multiple water pump failures

I bought a water pump that had catastrophic failure within 500 miles, and caused over 1K in damage in my engine bay just in parts. Autozone assumed liability and reimbursed me for portion of the damaged parts, but not 100% of it, that’s not including towing and repair labor, and their lifetime warranty meant nothing to me because I was not going to use their parts again.

Cons: catastrophic failure, caused engine damage, poor reliability
Mileage: 805 km
