No way, I've been using the same product with no gunk buildup. It could be a temperature thing. I live in texas so it's been 110 for like a month and a half.

Pros: no gunk buildup

Just so you know, BMWs are REALLY sensitive to washer fluid--not kidding. The cheap blue bug juice and the brand name winter mixes will clog up the screen and burn out the pump. You gotta use the BMW stuff.

Pros: use BMW stuff
Cons: clog up the screen
Vehicle: BMW
Part number: 83192221702

FWIW, the red stuff that Ford puts in at the dealership works incredibly well, much better than the blue stuff from the part store.

Pros: works incredibly well
Cons: better than blue stuff
Vehicle: Subaru

Rain-X washer fluid only. I buy 3 jugs per year for my two dailies and that's all I need. The road grime and such just does not stick. This in a northern environment where they love their salt.

Pros: road grime does not stick

I've been using the orange Rain-X washer fluid for about 6mo, it's not as good as a freshly applied coat of Rain-X but it's also easy to reapply and keep at a constant quality (just use the window sprayer). It's well worth the minimal cost and effort for reasonably good results, as opposed to Rain-X which is more effort especially if it's raining outside and the results degrade fairly quickly.

Pros: easy to reapply, constant quality, good results
Cons: not as good as fresh coat

another victim of Rain X here. I finally got around to cleaning the sensor when I did my oil change this past weekend. Sorry, I forgot to take pictures, but overall it's a fairly easy job.

Pros: fairly easy job
Cons: another victim

Early in the ownership of my ‘21 Bolt EV I made the mistake of buying the fancy washer fluid withe RainX in it. For some reason, the stuff formed gelatinous globs the size of grains of kosher salt in my fluid reservoir. This stuff has periodically haunted me with clogged windshield washer nozzles. The first two times I took it to the dealer for warranty service, which is an all-day ordeal.

Cons: formed gelatinous globs, clogged nozzles, dealer service ordeal
Vehicle: Chevrolet Bolt

Tried it once and the windshield always looked cloudy. Thought it was heat related at first, so tried it on a cool car in the garage, same thing. First rain storm I ran the reservoir dry and never used it again.

Cons: windshield always looked cloudy

I found using [Rain-X washerfluid] for awhile can leave that film and it took quite a while to get rid of it for me.

Cons: leaves hazy film, hard to remove
