Hankook Tires

I have Hankook Winter I*Pikes in 225/60R16 XL (102 load rating, I think) on my 2003EV. They have worked well for me.

Pros: worked well
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Nokia Tires

I too was running Nokian Haks and it was almost uncanny how good the traction was not just in deep fresh but on compacted snow and ice. The EV is a very heavy vehicle and having 2/3 the weight (depending on cargo) over the drive wheels makes a very stable setup.

Pros: good traction, stable setup
Cons: load rating tough to find
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Goodyear Tires

I run 225/60/16 Goodyear Ultragrip Ice tires, and I have to say that the Eurovan is extremely capable in heavy snow with these tires.

Pros: extremely capable in snow
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Continental Tires

I've been very impressed with the EV's performance in the snow. I'm running 15" Continental ContiWinter Contact snow tires, and use them year-round since I don't put many miles on during the summer months.

Pros: impressed with performance
Cons: front clearance not great
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Nokia Tires

17" of snow We just received an official 17.1" of snow so here is how my 01mv did with a set of Nokian Haks: At the end of the storm I tried to drive uphill to my house on an unplowed residential street. Made it most of the way before getting stuck - the front bumper was pushing snow.

Pros: good traction, money well spent
Cons: front bumper pushing snow
Vehicle: Volkswagen

Toyo Tires

The Nexens don't stretch worth a damn, the federals aren't much better. If you want the stretch and need it to work the Toyo T1-R is your best bet.

Pros: Toyo T1-R best bet
Cons: Nexens don't stretch

Rating 3.0

- Quiet when new - Reasonable grip dry/wet - Cheap to buy http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif - Lack of serious siping = don't bother in the snow - Gets noisy starting about halfway worn - If you have any autocrossing aspirations... don't.

Pros: quiet when new, reasonable grip
Cons: noisy when worn, bad snow

DUNLOP Tires

I've got this issue myself. I believe my problem is that my tires are out of round. If I spin them on the car it is plainly obvious. They've been that way since new. Dunlops from tire rack.

Cons: tires out of round
