OEM Volkswagen Spark plug

If you’re buying a used VW. This is the easiest one (Polo) to maintain.

1. Figure their parts change and maintenance schedules and follow. Check oil cap for oil type to use (15-20k is fine).

2. Always check oil hoses, rubber seals and gaskets (40-70k).

3. Change engine bushings (100k), chassis bushings (50k), transmission bushings (100k) for first time used buyer.

4. Check condition of all parts above before change, also include spark plugs. Stick to German OEM plugs (50k).

NGK Spark plug

I run NGK Iridium in my truck, they were like $17 each. That’s just my personal preference, I’m a boat mechanic and we put NGK in everything never had many issues with them except for these newer outboards running a weird plug that seem to foul after a couple hundred hours. I replace the plugs in my truck at like 250,000 miles. I currently have 370,000 on the truck and haven’t changed the plugs yet.

Pros: never had many issues
Cons: plugs seem to foul
Mileage: 250000 km

NGK Spark plug

As an ASE honda mechanic stick to OEM Only which will be NGK lazer Iridum or Denzo Iridum plugs. Cheap plugs foul and cause wear and tear on ignition coils and other electronics. As well but not limited to possible system lean codes and fouled injector tips.

Pros: OEM plugs are best
Cons: cheap plugs foul
Vehicle: Honda

Rating 5.0

I bought the absolute cheapest plugs available ($1.50/plug), and they are branded "Denso Toyota Iridium" - I assume fakes, but my magnifying glass does seem to show an iridium tip, and they work great.

Pros: work great

Champion Spark plug

Like everyone has mentioned just go back with an ac delco plug. I ran champions and had Mis fires, none of them were gapped right out of the box.

Pros: gapped right out of box
Cons: mis fires, not gapped
