Owner reviews for spark plug
After a few hours o cleaning and taking things apart, I came across the following: All in all, 3 weeks after getting everything cleaned up and the plugs, air filter, and oil changed, the car is back to making 34mph on the highway at 80, and before it was 27mpg at best.
I installed a set of Autolite 3923's gapped to .032 and guess what? FIXED! unbelievable, after all this testing only to find out that all I needed was new plugs.
newer Bosch plugs, cap, rotor (maybe 15k ago)
Don't bother with platinums. Just change out BKR6e plugs every 3-6k and you'll be good. They are dirt cheap and run the best.
Also, the best plugs for the car are NGK BKR7E's gapped at .032\" for unchipped and .028\" for chipped. They don't last as long since they're copper but at $2.39 a plug it's easy to afford to change them every other oil change. May not last the longest but they definitely run the best.
I had really good experiance with Denso Iridium on my mk3 2.0 and mk4 12v.
I'm flashed with Revo Stage 1 and I run NGK BKR7E plugs gapped to 0.028\". They are 1 range colder and are cheap ($15 for 4 at Lordco if you have a discount). Only downside is that you should regap them every oil change, and change them ever other oil change
I'm having the exact same problems with my 01 GTi VR6, ive replaced the coil pack and wires/plugs twice within 20,000ish miles...
I have the one sided electrode NGKs and it screwd up my mileage. but it seemed to happen once I switched the spark plugs.
